Public Awareness Events
For a warning or a forecast to be effective, it has to be disseminated and presented in a way that allows the intended audience to actually receive, understand, believe and more importantly, act upon the information.
The aims of a public education and awareness programme are:
- To increase weather literacy and interest in meteorological topics in general and also ensure that warnings and forecasts provided by the LMS are understandable.
- To build up a high level of awareness of hazards and preparedness and how to deal with them.
- To strengthen relationships between members of the hazards community to enable emergency management authorities to make well-informed decisions, and to minimise the potential for misinterpretation of information and communication of misinformation to the public.
- To provide information to the public, explain what types of products and services are available and how to obtain them.
