Lesotho will host a workshop for the Least Developed Countries (LDC’s) Group of experts on climate change. The workshop will be held in Maseru from 27-29 October 2008. The workshop has been organised by Lesotho Meteorological Service (LMS) with financial and technical support from the United Nations Environment Programme and technical support from the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will provide technical and financial support.

 

Forty-nine countries are expected to participate with a total of eighty foreign delegates in attendance.

 

The purpose of the workshop is to assist climate change experts from LDC’s to consolidate their special situations, specific needs and concerns on the implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and the Kyoto Protocol. This work will be presented to the Fourteenth Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP14) of the UNFCCC and the Fourth Session of the meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (CMP4) to be held in Poznan, Poland in December 2008.

 

The meeting has been organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in collaboration with the Government of the Kingdom of Lesotho through the Lesotho Meteorology Services (LMS) and United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
